Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master
Background
The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master was among the many former enemies of [Sun Wukong](/sun-wukong) that were assembled by [Erlang Shen](/erlang-the-sacred-divinity) to defeat and kill Wukong. For his service, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master received the [Envious Tongue](/envious-tongue) and returned back to his former domain. Now armed with his new relic, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master exacted revenge on those that previously aided Wukong against him, severing the [left](/bodhisattva27s-left-hand) and [right](/bodhisattva27s-right-hand-material) hands of Bodhisattva Pilanpo, and easily defeating her son, the [Dawnstar](/dawnstar) using the Bodhisattva's [Weaver's Needle](/weaver27s-needle).
Gruesome experiments would await as the Hundred-Eyed Daoist poured an experimental potion that either killed or corrupted the Dawnstar, turning him into [the Duskveil](/the-duskveil), and eggs implanted into the left and right hands of Pilanpo emerged as grown [Yaoguais](/bodhisattva27s-right-hand). Though the [Crane Immortal](/crane-immortal) tells the Hundred-Eyed Daoist off as the court had only chosen not to immediately intervene, the Daoist Master remained comfortable with the position he crafted for himself.

Tending the furnace, stoking the flame,
Making pills, to immortality aspire.
Countless eyes and countless schemes,
One misstep, and shatter all dreams.
"Will this...work?" Violet Spider lowered her head, not daring to look directly at Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master.
The master handed a needle to the old woman and said softly, "With what the monkey left behind and this vessel mine, you have nothing to worry about. If both fail, come to me, and I will back you up."
He paused, as if a new thought had struck him, and added, "If I act first, you will never see that pig again..."
Hearing this, the old woman quickly took the needle, thanked him, and left.
Once the door closed, an immortal with a red scalp and a crane face came in, holding a fly-whisk. He emerged from behind the screen, looking at the master imposingly.
The master bowed respectfully and reported, "With that that pig in our hands, the Destined One alone will not cause any trouble."
The Crane Immortal remained non-committal and sighed, "Your little schemes are all under His Majesty's watchful eyes. He hasn't intervened out of respect for Her Majesty."
The master chuckled dryly and replied, "Her Majesty's words: they've taken too much profit. This time, our principal and interest must be taken back."
The Crane Immortal flicked his fly-whisk as if shooing away flies and said leisurely, "Once it's done, you leave. But they still have to stay."
No expression could be seen on the master's face as he bowed deeply to the immortal.
Behavior
At the start of the fight the Spider sisters will attack the Hundred Eyed Daoist alongside with the Destined One, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist will take damage from their melee attcks but he will defeat the spider sisters before the Destined one fights him one-on-one. He attacks with his sword strikes and slashes, as well as launching magical talismans to attack the player from a distance, he will burrow into the ground on occasion to ambush the player with his centipede tail attacks and grab combos.
In his second phase the Hundred-Eyed Daoist will unleash the power of his eyes, emitting a bright flash of light that stuns the player before creating a yellow domain of golden eyes that can overwhelm and bonbard the player with laser beams, making the fight harder as a result. If the player has acquired the Weaver's Needle, they can use it to nullify the Daoist's domain and deal more damage to him, making his fight easier to deal with, upon his power being nullified the Daoist will swallow his sword to enhance his attack power as compensation for the remainder of the fight until his eventual defeat.

Journey to the West
In the novel, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist was the senior to the [Violet Spider](/violet-spider) and her sisters. When Wukong fought the sisters for the first time, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist was busy making new pills, and had sent the sisters away as their Yin energy could disrupt his project. The sisters returned in tatters as they had been chased out of their cave while their minions had been killed by four monks. Coincidentally, the Tang Monk's party had arrived seeking shelter for the night.
Although he was initially hospitable, when the Hundred-Eyed Daoist learned of his guests' identities, he schemed to consume the Tang Monk's flesh as it supposedly gave immortality. The Hundred-Eyed Daoist would poison the tea of the guests, successfully tricking everyone except Wukong. Wukong retaliated to the attack on his party by taking out his staff and attacking the Hundred-Eyed Daoist, correctly believing he was in cahoots with the Spider sisters.
As the Hundred-Eyed Daoist escaped, the Spider sisters released silk from their navels to try and trap Wukong, but he would respond by blowing out his clones to wreck their web, capturing the Spider sisters before they could detach from the silk they released. Wukong then demanded an exchange from the Hundred-Eyed Daoist; the antidote for the Tang Monk and the others for the lives of the Spider sisters. The Hundred-Eyed Daoist refused to negotiate, and an irate Wukong killed all the Spider sisters before attacking the Hundred-Eyed Daoist a second time.
Though Wukong gained the advantage in martial skills, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist disrobed to reveal the additional eyes scattered across his chest; each one emitting a golden light. This light weakened Wukong whose stone hide became soft, and he transformed into a pangolin and dug his way out of the situation. Wukong would panic as he was unable to find a solution, but the deity, the Lady Immortal of Mt. Li, suggested he visit Bodhisattva Pilanpo for a solution.
Wukong followed this advise and visited Pilanpo's residence, who had heard of Wukong's rampage in the Celestial Court, but was not aware of his conversion to Buddhism. After learning his predicament, Pilanpo agreed to help and used her [Weaver's Needle](/weaver27s-needle) to dispel Hundred-Eyed Daoist's golden light as it was not made of earthly materials, but from the eye of her son, the constellation deity, [Maori Xingguan](/dawnstar). This move immobilized the Hundred-Eyed Daoist, while Pilanpo then handed three pills that cured the Tang Monk's party.
Both Bajie and Wukong were still angry from the trouble caused by the Hundred-Eyed Daoist and wanted to kill him, but Pilanpo stayed their hand and wished to take the Hundred-Eyed Daoist as her disciple instead. The pair relented, and asked to at least see their foe's true form before they parted ways. At this request, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist was forced to transform into his true form, a centipede.
