Combat

The Combat in Black Myth: Wukong is fast paced shifts between offense and defense and is based on Stamina management. By performing actions that consume stamina, such as attacks and dodges, players can build up Focus Points, which can be used to unleash more powerful attacks. However, running out of Stamina will put the player at a disadvantage, so how and when it is used is key.

Light Attack

Light Attack: Square By pressing the corresponding button again, you can chain together a combo attack. Keep in mind that all attacks require Stamina.

Heavy Attack

Heavy Attack: Triangle Charged Attack: Hold Triangle By pressing the Triangle, players can perform a heavy attack. By holding and charging the attack, players will Build Up Focus and unleash more powerful attacks.

Dodge

Dodge: Circle Pressing the Circle will make the player Roll (Dodge). Press Circle the instant an enemy attacks to perform a Perfect Dodge. A well-timed Dodge can build up more Focus.

Focus

Focus Points are built through hits, charging, and Perfect Dodges, and can be spent all at once with a Heavy Attack, dealing more Damage at the expense of more Focus Points.

Varied Combo

Follow a Light Attack Combo with a Heavy Attack to trigger a Varied Combo. If the first strike of the Varied Combo lands, it can chain into a second strike. Varied Combos cost 1 Focus Point.

Staff Spin

Staff Spin: Hold R2 By holding the R2, players will spin their staff and be able to move forward, while deflecting projectiles.

Stances

Smash Stance: LEFT Arrow Pillar Stance: UP Arrow Thrust Stance: RIGHT Arrow There are three type of stances: Smash Stance, Pillar Stance and Thrust Stance. Each of the stances have their own skill tree and a different playstyle and abilities. Available only for Smash Stance. While performing a Light Attack Combo, players can press Triangle (Heavy Attack) the exact moment they get hit. This will consume a Focus Point, but will execute a Resolute Strike. During the Resolute Strike, the Destined One can see through the incoming enemy attacks and nullify their damage.

Spells

Mysticism Spell: R2 + Square Alteration Spell: R2 + Triangle Strand Spell: R2 + X Transformation Spell: R2 + O There are four types of spells: Mysticism, Alteration, Strand, and Transformations. Players can equip up to four spells, one of each type. Spells costs Mana and have a cooldown once they are used. Transformations spells grants the ability to briefly take the form of a yaoguai and use their form in combat. Each transformation has its own strengths, making them worth experimenting with. Transformations continuously consume Might and require a full gauge to initiate. Using Spells during a transformation further depletes Might, and once it is fully depleted, De-transformation occurs automatically. Subsequently, Might will gradually recover.

Spirit Skills

When Qi if full, press R2 + L2 to launch Spirit Skills. Transforming into a powerful yaoguai to unleash their signature abilities costs Qi, which can be recovered by absorbing it from enemies during combat.

Vessels

When Qi is full, press R2 + L3 to use Vessel. Some hidden Vessels left by the predecessors can be discovered in the journey, each with unique power. Using them costs Qi, which can recovered from hitting the enemies.
