While low clouds mark the flesh to die.
Halt steps in azure skies,
Or roam where earth's filth lies.
When Sun Wukong was learning the arts at Mount Lingtai, Patriarch Bodhi not only taught him the seventy-two transformations but also imparted the "Somersault Cloud" technique. From then on, Wukong's body became invulnerable, and his movements agile. However, when he showed off his skills in front of others, the Patriarch foresaw that his lack of patience would lead to trouble.
Immortals often say that Sun Wukong was at his most mischievous and ruthless when he was the Monkey King. Yet, during that time, aside from his battles with the Celestial Court, he rarely harmed other beings. It was only after he became a disciple, following his master and gaining direction, that he developed many thunderous methods. Stealing, robbing, kidnapping, killing, arson, and destroying mountains and caves—all became second nature to him.
This Cloudtreading Deer is said to be transformed from Sun Wukong's Lotus Silk Cloudtreaders. It reflects his free-spirited and agile nature but also harbors his inherent ferocity. Once he falls behind, his true nature is revealed, and he can no longer maintain his carefree facade.
Location
From [Foothills](/foothills)' Verdant Path Shrine, go past the [Supreme Celestial Inspector](/supreme-celestial-inspector) area and at the edge of the next small area (where you are after obtaining [Somersault Cloud](/somersault-cloud)). Turn slightly to the right and you will see some red leaf trees. Head straight to them. There will be a large empty area between the trees. Go there and a cutscene will start. The lightnings are also an indication, you can just head towards the middle (slightly to the right) lightning location.
Upon its defeat, the Cloudtreading Deer will drop [Lotus Silk Cloudtreaders](/lotus-silk-cloudtreaders) and [Mind Core](/mind-core).
Behaviour
In its first phase, the Cloud treading deer will use wind and ice elemental attacks. It will summon a series of tornados, gale winds, performing graceful aerial stomps that cause frost damage and a powerful frost roar as well. It will also use its antlers and hooves to ram and knock players back.
In its second phase the deer becomes coated in blood magic, causing it to use poison damaging attacks instead, such as creating bursts and spouts of poisonous blood, it will also be more aggressive yet more vulnerable to attack in the this phase.
